About

She started on a Game Boy. Now she writes for Sonic.

TORIENA is a Japanese producer, vocalist, and illustrator who does everything herself: the lyrics, the vocals, the production, and the artwork. She is flying in from Japan to play Kyosai at Tsukicon 2026.

Game Boy beginnings

TORIENA started making music in Kyoto in 2012, writing chiptune on original Nintendo Game Boy hardware. She played Blip Festival Tokyo that same year and was named Best New Artist at the World Wide Chiptune Awards. In 2013 she co-founded the chiptune label MADMILKY RECORDS, and by 2015 she was touring internationally, with shows in Italy, Australia, and the UK.

From chiptune to rave pop

In 2016 she added her own vocals with the album FAKEBIT, and a major-label debut on Toy's Factory followed with MELANCOZMO. Her sound today is fast, loud, and catchy: hard dance and rave built on a chiptune core, with pop hooks on top. Her 2018 collaboration with French producer Moe Shop, "Notice," has passed 50 million plays.

You've heard her in games and anime

TORIENA has produced music for Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog series, including Team Sonic Racing and Sonic Superstars. Her tracks appear in CHUNITHM and several of Konami's arcade rhythm games, and her music was featured in the anime Dropkick on My Devil!. In 2022 she wrote a song for the idol group Shiritsu Ebisu Chugaku.
